A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer *REVIEW*

A Curse So Dark and Lonely

By Brigid Kemmerer

After reading Letters To The Lost and More Than We Can Tell by Brigid Kemmerer I was super excited to get an arc of this one to read before it came out even though beginning this book I was a little nervous because I thought it was going to be an urban fantasy which is really not up my ally, but after a few chapters it was really easy to get into.

I'm going to start with the characters, Harper was a great main character and I really loved when it was her point of view. Her inner struggles came through the page so powerfully that I was able to feel and resonate with them myself, to an extent. She was brave and strong, yet the author also allowed her to have fear and it was so refreshing to see that just because she was afraid at times didn't mean she couldn't be brave at other points. I also loved Rhen. I loved how we got to know him piece by piece along side Harper but I felt at times it was hard to tell what his true motives actually were.

I really enjoyed this book, at first, when I was a few chapters in I honestly though this was going to be my favourite book of all time, but a few things happened along the way that just didn't add up or I thought were thrown in for random effect and never address or didn't have much of a point to the story as a whole, such as the inn keepers scenes. My main problem was with the epilogue. At this point before I had read the epilogue I thought it would be maybe a 3.5 star read but after reading it I really didn't like how it played out and thought it was kind of unnecessary, and it wasn't the kind of twist that left me wanting more, in fact it actually just kind of made me mad, so I docked .5 off of my rating

Overall, if this was a standalone it would be an ok read but since its not and I didn't enjoy the twist in the epilogue, I unfortunately don't find myself continuing on with this series.
