Royals by Rachel Hawkins *REVIEW*
Royals
By Rachel Hawkins
After reading the synopsis I was excited for a light summery contemporary about royal life to help get me out of my reading slump and thats exactly what I got. I'll be honest with you, I'm not the biggest fan of romance being a main feature in books, I prefer action and adventure and space travel but I heard some good things about this one and decided to give it a go.
The first few chapters were a little slow and I contemplated DNFing it, but once I got about 100 pages or so into this book it was really enjoyable and I didn't want to put it down. I really enjoyed the different personalities of the characters and the family dynamics. I also loved the atmosphere of both Florida and Scotland that came across in the book, and felt that Hawkins did a really great job making the reader feel as if they were in both locations with the characters.
Although I did enjoy Royals, I did have a few problems with some things, not to go into too much detail as to spoil anyone who hasn't read it yet but there were some points throughout the book that had me thinking "Is this even legal?" or "Could this actually happen?". Some things just seemed too far fetched even for a work of fiction. I also wasn't the biggest fan of the random love triangle that seemed to just come out of no where and didn't really serve as much of a point in the book.
Overall, Royals was an enjoyable book and I recommend picking it up if you are looking for something light and summery.
